The Adventure Begins

Picking up rigI just got this picture of Karen and me before pulling out of the New Horizons parking lot, headed for parts unknown. We were nervous, happy, wondering if we went crazy, and thankful for a sense of adventure that made this all possible.

It’s got to be an incredible feeling to know that your adventure is now beginning, can’t wait until Daphne and I will be at that point in time. We have often laughed at the fact that we’ll be sitting in the truck ready to pull out to start our adventure (which won’t be until later in 2016) and look at one another and say “well, where do you wanna go first, lol) but I’m sure we’ll have no trouble deciding ( our first trip will take up hwy 101 along the west coastal shores).
LOL, our family knows of what we want to do and are already saying we are nuts, crazy etc and asking “why do you want to do this at your age” and my simple answer to that is “because, we aren’t mushrooms ……. not yet anyway”.

We wish you all the best on your new adventures and look forward to seeing your new destinations through your eyes until we can get out there, hey maybe we will meet you 2 out on the road or at a rally or something.

At any rate, be safe ,have fun, happy trails and look forward to reading all about what you have found.

So nice to hear from you again, Steven and Daphne. You’re right — we’re not mushrooms yet. Our philosophy is we only have so many days left on this earth and we plan to take full advantage of every one. The last thing we want to do is play it safe, miss opportunities, then die. That doesn’t sound like a good plan. And what’s the very worse that could happen if this doesn’t work out? Sell everything for X cents on the dollar, buy a condo in Portland, and live happily ever after. Sounds like a win-win for both of us.

See you on the road! You’ll love it.

A huge “shout out” to Jeff and Karen from Jason and Theresa in Escondido. As Morgan Freeman eloquently put it, “Get busy living, or get busy dying.” (Shawshank Redemption) The Kings are busy living! I can’t tell you how exciting and inspirational you are to the rest of us. Theresa and I have a couple of decades before even thinking about retirement, but your stories you post ignite great conversations in the evenings. I’m not completely sold on this whole “just sell your house and hit the road” idea until I know Karen can still cook up her world-famous breakfast burritos (I ate two in one meal!) while Jeff navigates the roads of the U.S. Keep it up, you two! See yah!

P.S. My driveway is long enough for you to hook up and stay a night or two anytime your traveling through your ol’ stomping grounds.

Great to hear from you Jason! You know me . . . every day should be an adventure. That way when I run out of days, I won’t have any regrets. The worst thing I can imagine is being too cautious, avoiding risk, missing out on great, unexpected surprises, and then dying. And like I shared with another follower, what’s the worse that can happen? Sell everything for what I can get, buy a condo in Portland, and then keep on trucking. There is no downside.

Hope all is well and that you’re continuing to change the lives of many, many children and teachers at your school.
